Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund did not live up to their role as favorites against Erzgebirge Aue. The third-division club drew 1:1 (0:1) with BVB in front of 14,900 spectators at the sold-out Erzgebirge Stadium.
Although Aue were clearly the better team at the start and had the first chance to score through Omar Sijaric in the 13th minute, BVB took the lead in the 20th minute. A corner from Julian Brandt found Elias Benkara, who only had to nod home. After that, the game remained evenly poised and the Violets had a few chances to score.
Both teams changed almost completely for the second half. Aue kept looking for Kilian Jakob on the left flank, who found a taker in the 82nd minute. Sean Seitz converted a feed from Jakob to score a deserved equalizer. BVB's play was rather unimaginative and so the match remained a draw.
The test match was accompanied by joint chants by the fans against RB Leipzig. A test match between Aue and RB scheduled for July 26 has been causing tensions between fans and the club for weeks, which was also expressed by banners at the test match against BVB.
