Red Bull managing director Oliver Mintzlaff has given Leipzig head coach Marco Rose a job guarantee for the winter break and emphasized Jürgen Klopp's backing. "Of course we backed Marco during the difficult phase. I think that's also part of it. We have done that, and Marcel Schäfer and his team in particular have done a good job," said Mintzlaff on Sat.1 this evening. "Of course, nothing will happen in the winter."
The 49-year-old has also spoken to Klopp as the new strong man at Red Bull with regard to the sporting situation. "There is contact, of course. Jürgen starts on January 1, there are many things we discuss there. Of course, we also talked about the sporting situation. But there was absolute support from Jürgen, also for Marco Rose," said Mintzlaff.
Klopp will take on a strategic position as "Head of Global Soccer" in the RB soccer cosmos from January 1, 2025.
The Saxons had gone the whole of November without a win and suffered heavy defeats such as the 5-1 loss to Wolfsburg. Leipzig have already been eliminated from the Champions League after six defeats. They had "played a very, very poor Champions League round", Mintzlaff stated. "That is not our ambition." In December, RB at least got back on track nationally.
