The RB Leipzig women's soccer team surprisingly crashed out of the DFB Cup in the second round at second-division side Union Berlin. In a hard-fought match, the Bundesliga club under new coach Jonas Stephan lost 0:1 (0:1) at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei and missed out on the round of 16. In the men's competition, the clubs and fan camps are always at loggerheads. There is also a rivalry in the women's game.
The Saxons had several good chances in the first half. Lydia Andrade (6th minute) and Marleen Schimmer (45.+2) missed from prime positions. The Iron Ladies did better. A header from Eleni Markou landed at the inside of the post. Dina Orschmann was able to dust it off with ease (40').
RB without any good chances in the second half
The Berlin team led by coach Ailien Poese continued to make life difficult for the visitors after the break with strong tackling in temperatures of over 30 degrees. RB did not get another clear opportunity.
RB had won their opening game in the Bundesliga. Union have two draws in league two so far. Nevertheless, the team is one of the candidates for promotion.
