Football international Timo Werner has raved about the club and his new teammates after his successful debut for Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League. "The whole environment here is perfect for me to be happy again, to perform as well as I can," the 27-year-old told Sky TV after the 2:2 (1:2) draw with Manchester United. Werner set up the second Tottenham goal through Rodrigo Bentancur. "I just realized that the fun was coming back and that was a lot of fun today," he said.
Werner had moved to the north London club last week on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season. He previously made his last Premier League appearance in a Chelsea FC shirt on May 7, 2022. The Spurs tactic "with me on the left or in the middle and with attacking soccer, it fits like a glove," said Werner. The interaction with his new team is already working very well. "That gives me a lot of confidence and I really appreciate how they've used me today."
Towards the end of the game, some spectators even celebrated the striker with shouts of "Timo, Timo". "It's just really, really good fun and when people honor that - especially with my Chelsea past - and see that you give everything for your new club, then it's really nice," enthused Werner, who also wants to recommend himself in England for a place in national coach Julian Nagelsmann's squad for the home European Championships.
