Ahead of his Champions League debut, his coach Marco Rose has given Xavi Simons a key role and predicted a bright future. "He is simply an excellent player with exceptional quality and with perspective because he is still young. With more games in his legs and more experience, the package will be even more complete," Rose said of the 20-year-old Dutchman. Simons has scored three goals and prepared four others in four games so far. On Tuesday (18.45 clock/DAZN), he is expected to take a leading role in the Football Champions League at Young Boys Bern.
In the premier league, however, Simons has never played. At his regular club Paris Saint-Germain, Leipzig has loaned him for a season, the offensive player was in the round of 16 of the 2021/22 season twice without use in the squad. For Rose, this is not a problem at all. "His profile is exceptional. He is never satisfied, he always wants more. He is already a horny boy," said the coach.
In addition, Simons is one of the players who are used to artificial turf from their youth. In Bern's Wankdorfstadion, Leipzig will have to play on the unfamiliar surface. The Saxons have already trained on artificial turf in preparation on Sunday morning. "Of course, Bern is more used to it, but we will make up for it with our quality. It won't be because of the artificial turf," said Kevin Kampl. The veteran deputizes for the injured Willi Orban as captain.
