SC Freiburg coach Julian Schuster is ignoring both the table and the Baden club's poor record against the Saxons ahead of the top game in the Bundesliga at RB Leipzig. "That plays zero role for me, the decisive factor for me is who we are facing," said the 39-year-old about the chance to jump into first place, at least temporarily, with an away win on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky). Leipzig are currently second, Freiburg third. Leaders FC Bayern Munich do not play until Sunday (3.30pm/DAZN) at VfL Bochum.
Schuster pointed to the enormous quality of Leipzig, who have yet to lose in the league this season. "Six times to nil and only two goals conceded in seven games - you have to achieve that first," said the SC coach. His initial focus is on his own defense. "If we're not able to score a goal, then it's important not to concede one. In the worst-case scenario, we go home with a 0-0 draw," said Schuster.
In the eight Bundesliga games in Leipzig so far, SC have not managed a win. "I'm less interested in past results, our focus is on what we can influence, and that's preparing for Leipzig, who we face on Saturday," explained the Freiburg coach.
