Delayed deliveries and reluctance to buy are having a negative impact on the business of model train manufacturer Piko.

Delayed deliveries and a continuing reluctance to buy have led to rather subdued business for the East German model train manufacturer Piko in the first five months of the year. Total sales at the end of May were slightly below the previous year's level and below the revenue planned for 2024, the company announced in Sonneberg on Tuesday.

For production reasons, the delivery of new products had to be postponed, for example, it said. In addition, container deliveries from the Piko factory in China had longer delivery times of up to three weeks.

The model train manufacturer had announced 450 new locomotive and wagon products in its 75th year of existence. The spectrum ranges from special models in all track sizes to a class 62 steam locomotive that emits steam.

The medium-sized company with almost 650 employees in Germany and China does not provide absolute figures on turnover and profit. So far, Piko says it is sticking to its single-digit percentage sales growth target for this year.
