Chemnitz increases admission to art museums

To mark the start of the Capital of Culture year, the city of Chemnitz is increasing admission prices for a number of museums by an average of 25 percent. From January 1, visitors to the Kunstsammlungen am Theaterplatz and the Gunzenhauser Museum will pay 10.00 instead of 8.00 euros for a day ticket. Reduced admission will rise from 5.00 to 6.50 euros and the price for a family ticket from 12.00 to 16.00 euros. This was decided by the city council, according to the city administration. Visits to the Schloßberg Museum, Rabenstein Castle and the Henry van de Velde Museum in Villa Esche will also be more expensive.

Reason: increased costs

The increase was justified by rising personnel and material costs. Prices were last adjusted in 2019, it said.

Every first Friday of the month, admission to municipal museums in Chemnitz has so far been free. This will remain in place until the end of December, the city administration announced in response to a dpa inquiry. Will this regulation be continued next year? "A new city council resolution is required for an extension," said the city administration.
