Historic low: Building permits in Saxony down significantly

Building permits reach historic low in Saxony. Decrease of 14 percent compared to the previous year, for residential buildings even 39 percent.

According to the State Statistical Office, the number of building permits in Saxony has fallen to a historic low. There were 2,709 building permits in the first half of the year. Compared to the same period last year, this is a decrease of 14 percent. In the case of residential buildings, the decline was as much as 39 percent, well above the national average of minus 28 percent.

According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, the total number of building permits in Saxony has fluctuated between around 8,500 and almost 11,000 per year over the past 15 years. Last year, a total of 6,385 building permits were issued.

Turnover in the construction industry was correspondingly lower. According to the statistics authority, real turnover in the first half of this year was 2.8 billion euros, six percent lower than in the same period last year.
