After days of negotiations, the company and the union have reached an agreement for Volkswagen. IG Metall district manager Schulze speaks of a "difficult but workable compromise".

In the opinion of IG Metall district manager Dirk Schulze, the wage agreement at the car manufacturer Volkswagen has prevented a clear cut. Schulze spoke of a difficult but workable compromise. Now the VW management must fulfill its obligations and make targeted investments in the future with attractive and affordable models.

"We were able to secure the sites in Zwickau as well as in Chemnitz and Dresden in extremely complex negotiations," explained Schulze, who heads the IG Metall district of Berlin-Brandenburg-Saxony. "No plant in Saxony will be closed and no employee has to fear redundancy."

Schulze recalled that several plants were threatened with closure and mass redundancies were on the cards. "This is off the table with today's agreement." A particular milestone is the job security until 2030. "This means that our colleagues in Saxony, just like at the other VW sites in Germany, have security for the coming years."
