The Sandman, Germany's longest-serving character in children's television, receives a lot of viewer mail - and it is always answered. According to a spokeswoman for Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb), 500 painted pictures are sent to each of the three television stations that broadcast the Sandman every year. There are also around 800 emails and letters with other content.
"The mail to the Sandman is always answered," said the spokesperson. There are many questions about the program, for example when the favorite series is on again, and a lot of praise. The daily program "Abendgruß" with the Sandman also airs on KiKA and MDR.
On November 22, 1959, the Sandman sprinkled his dream sand for the first time on GDR television at 6.55 pm. Since then, the daily program "Abendgruß" has been a fixed bedtime ritual for many children. On the associated website, under the heading "Pictures of the Month", you can see drawings or other artistic creations submitted by children.
