The Moritzburg Festival at the baroque castle of the same name not far from Dresden is one of Europe's top addresses for chamber music. It not only attracts musicians to the idyllic pond landscape in summer.

Around 6,300 people attended the 19 events at this year's Moritzburg Festival not far from Dresden. That was slightly more than last year, with an average attendance rate of 94 percent, according to the organizers.

"Music, nature and friendship came together again this summer in a wonderful way and created the unique Moritzburg atmosphere," summarized artistic director and cellist Jan Vogler.

The festival was to end in the evening with the world premiere of the string octet "Nachts im Monströsensaal" by composer Benjamin Scheer, who was inspired above all by the interior of the baroque palace. The 33rd edition has been announced for August 8 to 24, 2025.

Since August 2, 29 soloists from Germany and abroad have celebrated the diversity of chamber music literature against the backdrop of the baroque palace. New formats included a tango night and an evening in which a concert is combined with a tour of the palace.

Renowned festival for chamber music

The Moritzburg Festival for Chamber Music was founded in 1993 by Jan Vogler, Peter Bruns and Kai Vogler and is one of the top addresses for chamber music in Europe. In the idyllic landscape around the hunting lodge of Saxony's legendary art-loving Elector Augustus the Strong (1670-1733), musicians from all over the world come together every year to rehearse and perform in changing ensembles. Since 2006, there has also been a Moritzburg Festival Academy for young talent - under the direction of violinist Mira Wang.
