Despite a number of players falling ill at FC Augsburg in recent days, coach Jess Thorup is expecting a more relaxed personnel situation for the match against RB Leipzig. The coach has the "feeling that we can manage eleven men on the pitch". He will be able to call on "a very good team", said the 54-year-old ahead of the Bundesliga match on Friday (20:30/DAZN).
Many players from the youth ranks had recently filled out the depleted squad in training. Elvis Rexhbecaj, Steve Mounié, Chrislain Matsima and Keven Schlotterbeck have had to cut back in recent days. Thorup wants to wait and see how the players cope with the strain in the upcoming training sessions.
Unbeaten streak gives Thorup "a lot of confidence"
Mads Pedersen, who has been frequently injured this season, recently tore a ligament and will not be available against Leipzig. Returning striker Mergim Berisha, who has a thigh injury, will have an MRI next week to determine how long he will be out for.
The defensively stable Augsburg side have been unbeaten in the league for five games. That gives them "a lot of self-confidence", said Thorup.
