The Dresden SC women's volleyball team have defended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table. Alexander Waibl's team beat VfB Suhl Lotto Thüringen 3:1 (21:25, 25:20, 25:20, 25:19) in Meiningen. The team from the city on the Elbe thus returned to winning ways after the bitter defeat against Schwerin.
At the start of the derby, the visitors from the Saxon state capital struggled to find their rhythm in front of 895 spectators. Their reception in particular was weak, but the favorites also lacked pressure and precision overall. In the middle of the second period, a series of serves by DSC setter Sarah Straube put the leaders clearly in front.
In the third period, the two teams again fought out a close exchange of blows. In crunch time, the DSC was able to turn around a three-point deficit, also thanks to Straube's once again very powerful serving. The visitors now played to their strengths, while VfB lost the thread in the fourth period. Despite a late comeback by the hosts, Dresden could no longer be stopped.
