Dynamo Dresden advance to the final of the Saxony Cup

Dynamo Dresden still have their place in the first round of the DFB Cup in their own hands. The struggling third-division club won 2:1 (1:0) at regional league side FSV Zwickau late on Wednesday evening to advance to the final of the Saxony Cup. The prestigious clash with Erzgebirge Aue awaits there. Aue had beaten Oberliga side FV Bischofswerda 4-0 the previous week.

In front of 7,234 spectators in the GGZ ARENA, Robin Meißner (16th/89th) was the player of the match. Zwickau's Marc-Philipp Zimmermann (66) had equalized in the meantime. "We want to win the cup. It's like a European Cup match," Dresden's interim coach Heiko Scholz told a media conference on Tuesday.

The Black & Yellows began with a correspondingly brisk start. However, after Meißner's opening goal, the favorites failed to decide the game early on. In the closing stages, substitute captain Stefan Kutschke (80'), Jonathan Meier (84') and joker Panagiotis Vlachodimos (87') failed to score against the strong FSV goalkeeper Benjamin Leneis. Leneis, of all people, made a mistake in the 89th minute with a shot from Dennis Borkowski. The double goal scorer converted the rebound ice-cold.
