Dynamo Dresden stumbled badly in the 3rd division. Thomas Stamm's team lost 2:1 (0:2) at 15th-placed VfB Stuttgart II and missed out on a move to the top of the table. Laurin Ulrich (38th minute) surprisingly put the hosts ahead, after the change Samuele di Benedetto (48th) increased the lead. Stefan Kutschke (88th/foul penalty) only managed to equalize for Dresden. Stuttgart's Mohamed Sankoh was shown the red card in the 68th minute for a challenge.
Dresden started with a lot of pressure and created some good chances in Aspach. The hosts struggled to get into the game, but scored the first goal: After losing the ball, Dynamo were not wide awake and Ulrich took advantage of this to take a surprising lead. The promotion co-favorites were also caught cold after the changeover. After Dynamo goalkeeper Tim Schreiber picked up a controlled back pass with his hands, resulting in an indirect free-kick in the five-meter box, di Benedetto smashed the ball into the top left-hand corner.
Dynamo tried new personnel, bringing on Kutschke for Christoph Daferner. 24 hours before the game, it had become known that the captain had opened a gym in Dresden as a partner, where, according to the club, one of the other two partners had "a right-wing extremist past". After an intensive exchange with the club's management, Kutschke "revealed his views and distanced himself from right-wing extremist backgrounds".
In the game, Kutschke held his nerve and scored the equalizer from the spot. Kaden Amaniampong had previously fouled Dresden substitute Sascha Risch in the penalty area. It was not enough for more.
