RB Leipzig has several goalkeepers on duty with the national teams. Only the number one is canceling the international trips.

RB Leipzig loanee Janis Blaswich has once again received an invitation from national coach Julian Nagelsmann. The goalkeeper, who is on loan to Red Bull Salzburg, was nominated for the DFB squad for the upcoming Nations League games against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Zenica on October 11 and against the Netherlands in Munich three days later following the injury to regular goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.

Nagelsmann did, however, commit himself to the goalkeeper position when announcing his 23-man squad. Ter Stegen remains the number one in the DFB team despite his serious knee injury and his month-long absence from FC Barcelona. After a long wait, Nagelsmann assured Hoffenheim's Oliver Baumann of his debut in the DFB goal. Stuttgart's Alexander Nübel can hope for something in the second international match, while the 33-year-old Blaswich is earmarked as number three.

Gulacsi misses out on international matches

This means that RB Leipzig will once again have another international goalkeeper. Blaswich had already received a DFB invitation last November after impressing with top performances in Leipzig as a replacement for the injured Hungarian international goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi. Curious: Gulacsi had just waived the next international matches. "It's something special for every player to play for their country. But I'm 34 years old, I've had a long injury and haven't had much time to recover during the English weeks. It's important to listen to my body and myself," said Gulacsi.

He had previously discussed his decision not to play with Hungarian national team coach Marco Rossi and the sporting management at RB. "I hope it will help me to play at the top level. I have a big responsibility for RB Leipzig. I want to fulfill that," said Gulacsi. After all, Belgian international goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt is a more than talented new signing waiting for his chance. The 21-year-old, who has a contract in Leipzig until June 30, 2029, is seen as the Saxons' future number one in the long term. Blaswich also has a contract in Leipzig until the summer of 2026.
