Niners Chemnitz loses to Itelyum Varese in the Europe Cup

The Niners Chemnitz basketball team have suffered their first defeat on the international stage this season. The charges of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore lost their penultimate intermediate round game in the Europe Cup at Itelyum Varese by 78:90 (37:45) on Wednesday. Despite the defeat, the Saxons can no longer be denied victory in this group of the intermediate round. Davide Moretti (29), Sean Mc Dermott (20), Nico Mannion (14) and Gabe Brown (13) played the biggest part in the Italians' success. De Andre Landsdowne (18), Jonas Richter (14), Kevin Yebo (13) and Jeffery Garrett (11) scored in double figures for the visitors.

The club from Chemnitz was not able to take the lead once in the course of the game. The visitors kept pace up to 25:24 (12'), but fell eight points behind by the break due to their poor three-point shooting percentage. Not one of ten attempts in the first two quarters landed in the Vares basket. The visitors fought their way back to 67:68 (34') in the final quarter. However, the Italians finally settled the encounter with a 7:0 run to make it 75:67 (35'). The Niners remained weak from beyond the three-point line and were only able to convert three out of 26 attempts in the end.
