The Saxons retain their good starting position in the battle for a direct place in the play-offs thanks to their success at bottom-placed Göttingen. Chemnitz only turned up the heat in the final quarter.

Returner Kevin Yebo led the Niners Chemnitz basketball team to a 94:90 (44:49) victory at bottom-of-the-table BG Göttingen on Saturday. The power forward, who recently signed for Bayern Munich, drained the last two crucial free throws to seal the final score and contributed a total of 20 points to the Saxons' twelfth win of the season. They thus consolidated their sixth place.

In addition to Kevin Yebo, Jacob Gilyard (24), Jeff Garrett (14), DeAndre Lansdowne and Victor Bailey Jr. (11 each) played the biggest part in the success. Demajeo Wiggins, Kostja Mushidi (15 each), Chuba Ohams, Marcus Shaver Jr. (13 each), Deion Hammond (12) and Collin Welp (11) scored in double figures for the club from Lower Saxony.

The Niners led 12:5 after six minutes, but then ran into serious difficulties at the bottom of the table. Göttingen pulled 27:18 ahead by the twelfth minute and extended its lead to 73:59 by the 29th minute.

The Niners then turned on the heat in the final quarter. Kevin Yebo drained a three to put the visitors 80:78 ahead in the 36th minute and they extended their lead to 89:83 in the penultimate minute and did not let it slip from their grasp.
