The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team have celebrated their third win in seven days in the Bundesliga. The team of coach Runar Sigtryggsson won 27:25 (16:10) at TVB Stuttgart in front of 3860 spectators on Thursday evening. Viggo Kristjansson was the best scorer for SC DHfK, who moved up to eighth place with 21:25 points. The Icelander scored seven goals against his former club.
After an evenly poised opening spell in which both teams were particularly successful at the back, Leipzig opened up a slight gap for the first time with three goals in succession to make it 8:5 in the 16th minute. Although the home side fought its way back into contention, it subsequently made an increasing number of technical mistakes. As Leipzig's goalkeeper Domenico Ebner once again confirmed his outstanding form with ten saves in the first half, the visitors pulled away by the break.
In an open exchange of blows, Leipzig increased its lead at the start of the second half. However, they then lost their ease in attack. They also repeatedly failed to score due to the increasingly strong goalkeeper Miljan Vujovic. Stuttgart seized the momentum, now played with far more energy and closed the gap. Patrick Zieker reduced the deficit to 25:26 with just under two minutes remaining and, after another Vujovic save, the home side even had the chance to equalize in the final minute. But Ebner prevented that with his 18th save before Staffan Peter redeemed Leipzig with his goal seven seconds before the end.
