After Frank Onyeka missed a great chance in Augsburg's 0-0 draw against RB Leipzig, FCA coach Jess Thorup is adding to the training schedule for the coming week. The Dane announced extra shifts with his midfielder.
"The big chance to make it 1-0 was there. I said to Frank and the team: I'll take personal responsibility for making deals with Frank next week so that he can do better," said Thorup in the press conference about his speech in the dressing room.
Dahmen "desperate" at the back of the goal
In the next game, Onyeka would then "hopefully score the goal" in a similar situation and FC Augsburg would win the game, said Thorup. Onyeka had a great opportunity on Friday evening in the 82nd minute after a fine FCA attack to shoot unchallenged from 14 meters in a central position. However, he missed the goal to the right.
"I'm a bit desperate at the back," said FCA goalkeeper Finn Dahmen about the scene in which the winning goal was in the bag. Thorup, meanwhile, left the game with the feeling that his team could have won at home against a top-four team in the Bundesliga. "If you say that after a game against Leipzig, we're on the right track," the 54-year-old summed up. FC Augsburg are now unbeaten in six games.
