The Thuringian handball players face a tough test in their home opener. They put up a good fight, but Borussia Dortmund proved to be too strong.

The Bundesliga handball club Thüringer HC suffered a setback in its first home game. Five days after the 28:17 opening victory in Leverkusen, the team of Head Coach Herbert Müller lost 29:30 (13:17) to Borussia Dortmund. In front of 1,327 spectators, Johanna Reichert was the best scorer with nine goals. Former THC player Alicia Langer led BVB with seven goals.

The Thuringians, who were without their right wing, got off to a disastrous start. They failed to develop any penetration in attack and revealed major weaknesses in their retreat. BVB led 5:0 after six minutes, but the home side then stepped up the intensity considerably and reduced the deficit to 6:8 by the twelfth minute. However, Dortmund did not let this bother them and were able to rely on their strong backcourt players at all times. As a result, their lead grew again by the break.

The club from Thuringia came out of the break with a lot of energy and reduced the deficit to 19:20 in the 38th minute. However, they were not able to maintain this momentum for long. BVB exploited the THC's weak spell mercilessly and pulled 28:23 ahead in the 51st minute. Although the club from Thuringia showed strong morale and managed to get back into contention, it was no longer able to seriously threaten Dortmund's victory.
