- In 2014, 1. FC Heidenheim were promoted to the Bundesliga 2 as third division champions. Leipzig came second at the time and were promoted to the Bundesliga a further two years later. Heidenheim followed suit in the summer. FCH coach then as now: Frank Schmidt.
- Yussuf Poulsen was already in the RB jersey in the 3rd division. In 36 games, the Dane contributed ten goals to promotion. One of them came in the 1-1 draw at home against Heidenheim.
- Leipzig are doing well at home. RB have not lost in ten home games in the Bundesliga (eight wins, two draws). The 2:3 against Mainz on April 1 is the last defeat at home to date.
- Both Leipzig and Heidenheim are distance specialists. The teams scored five goals each from long range. This means they share top spot in the league.
- Marco Rose has had the luckier hand of both coaches so far. Six joker goals followed his substitutions - a league best. His counterpart Schmidt made a total of 56 changes, but not a single joker scored.
