Goalkeeper Blaswich goes to Austria. His strong performances and impeccable behavior remain.

RB Leipzig goalkeeper Janis Blaswich will play for sister club RB Salzburg next season. Both clubs made the announcement on Saturday. The 33-year-old, who even made it into the German national team squad as a strong replacement for Peter Gulacsi in November 2023, will be loaned to the Austrians for a year.

The 33-year-old, who joined from Heracles Almelo in the summer of 2022, was a strong back-up for Leipzig after the Hungarian's injury, winning the DFB Cup with RB 2023 (2-0 against Eintracht Frankfurt) and the Supercup against FC Bayern Munich (3-0) a few weeks later. "The victories in the DFB Cup and the Super Cup were of course the absolute highlights and these successes will always remain," said Blaswich.

Head coach Marco Rose praised both keepers for their impeccable handling and spoke of having "two number ones". Nevertheless, Gulacsi fought his way back in February and took his chance. With the Hungarian international goalkeeper, RB no longer lost a game in the Bundesliga. In the coming season, Gulacsi and Belgian newcomer Maarten Vandevoordt will compete for a regular place. Blaswich was given the go-ahead weeks ago, although he still has a current contract with RB until June 30, 2026.
