Third division soccer club FC Erzgebirge Aue has signed its first new signing for the coming season. Striker Ricky Bornschein signed a contract with the Erzgebirge until June 30, 2026, the club announced on Thursday. The 24-year-old currently plays for the second team of SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the Regionalliga Bayern and has scored 16 goals in 30 games so far.
"We want to further strengthen our attacking positions. In Ricky Bornschein, we are gaining a player who has had an exciting career, has great development potential and fits the position profile we are looking for," said Head of Sport Matthias Heidrich.
Bornschein comes from Merseburg, has never been in a youth academy and played for Blau-Weiß Zorbau in the Oberliga until January 2023. After scoring 16 goals in 16 games in the first half of the 2022/23 season, he was transferred to Fürth in the winter. "I made a conscious decision to join Aue and turned down other options in the league," said the 1.93-metre striker. "I'm a child of the East and want to be successful. The 3rd division is a challenge for me."
