Without defensive boss Willi Orban, but with playmaker Xavi Simons, RB Leipzig go into this Saturday's Bundesliga top match (18:30/Sky) at Eintracht Frankfurt. And RB interim coach Zsolt Löw announced that Dutch international Simons is in top form following his yellow card suspension. "He's in top form, has trained very well and has also made his mark against the ball in training," said Löw, who also has national team players David Raum, Assan Ouédraogo and Kevin Kampl back in the matchday squad. Antonio Nusa will have to wait for the final training session to see if he is a squad option.
Orban, who still has muscular problems, will not be able to play in the match against the third-placed team in the Bundesliga. "The cause has been found, but he will be available against Bremen at the latest," said Löw. Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi will also not be in the squad after his heavy collision in the Kiel game. Maarten Vandevoordt will be back in goal for him. "We have zero stomach pains," Löw emphasized.
Reunion with Toppmöller
This will be the third match against Eintracht this season for the fourth-placed team from Saxony. The (home) record speaks for Leipzig. First there was a 3-0 win in the DFB Cup round of 16, then a 2-1 victory in the league. It is also a reunion with ex-Leipzig man Dino Toppmöller. The 44-year-old was Julian Nagelsmann's assistant coach in the 2020/2021 season. He then followed Nagelsmann to FC Bayern Munich before being released by the Munich club in March 2023 with the current national coach Nagelsmann. Toppmöller has been head coach at Eintracht since summer 2023.
