After two victories, RB Leipzig's women's footballers have suffered another defeat. The Bundesliga club lost heavily at VfL Wolfsburg with 0:5 (0:1). Lynn Wilms (21st minute), Sveindis Jonsdottir (65th), Lineth Beerensteyn twice (76th and 90th) and Rebecka Blomqvist (84th) scored at Wolfsburg's AOK Stadium. With nine points, RB remain in fifth place for the time being, while VfL have one point more in third place.
At first, there were top-class chances on both sides. At the third attempt following a VfL corner, the ball came to Wilms, who slammed it under the crossbar to give the former champions the lead. Overall, however, the action in the first half was balanced and the game was tight.
In the second half, Leipzig were the more active team at the start and closer to an equalizer than Wolfsburg were to another goal. Nevertheless, it was once again the weak start to the season that scored: A long ball from Wilms landed with Alexandra Popp, who played Jonsdottir in the middle. All she had to do was slot home to make it 2:0. After that, the game slipped away from Leipzig. In the final phase, Beerensteyn scored a brace and Rebecka Blomqvist made the final score clear.
