A gold medal winner from Beijing marries a former cross-country skier - and will tackle the Olympic winter with a new name.

The German Olympic cross-country skiing champion Katharina Hennig has married and will be competing with a new name in the Olympic winter. Hennig married her long-term partner Christian Dotzler in front of around 75 guests in the Allgäu region and will be competing as Katharina Hennig-Dotzler in future. The 28-year-old confirmed the wedding ceremony on Holy Saturday to the "Freie Presse" newspaper from Chemnitz.

"It was very emotional and tears were shed. Fortunately, the weather was great. Everything was just as we had imagined - simply a dream day," said Hennig. The couple are now enjoying their honeymoon in the Maldives. Together with Victoria Carl, Hennig won Olympic gold in the team sprint in Beijing in 2022. Dotzler is a cross-country skier himself, but has never been as successful as his wife.
