RB Leipzig will start with Castello Lukeba in central defense against FC Augsburg. Head coach Marco Rose gave the 20-year-old Frenchman preference, also because Lukas Klostermann had to pass due to a cold. Lukeba, who was brought in from Olympique Lyon for 30 million euros and also played alongside Mohamed Simakan in central defense for the French U21s, replaces head defender Willi Orban (torn lateral knee ligament) in his starting eleven debut. For Dani Olmo, who is also injured, Rose brings in Sweden's Emil Forsberg. For the first time again in the RB squad is after more than ten-month injury break goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi.

With the Augsburgers, who are still winless in this season and who so far in seven games only got one point in Leipzig, coach Enrico Maaßen made two changes. He gave Patric Pfeiffer, who is eligible to play again after a suspension, his Bundesliga debut. Phillip Titz had to sit on the bench. Newcomer Kevin Mbabu got the preference against Arne Engels.
