After RB Leipzig's Champions League defeat at Sturm Graz, record international Lothar Matthäus believes that the unrest surrounding the Bundesliga club and its coach Marco Rose can only be ended by a longer period of success. "I think he just needs a series now. A convincing series. It's best to start at the weekend," Matthäus said on RTL/ntv ahead of Leipzig's game at Union Berlin on Saturday (18:30/Sky).
The 2023 DFB Cup winners lost 1-0 in Graz on Wednesday, but had already been eliminated from the top flight. RB have recently failed to win in the league three times in a row. "Seven defeats in the Champions League are of course simply not RB Leipzig-like," said TV pundit Matthäus.
"A team that plays Champions League for Germany simply cannot lose in Austria - and I'm sorry if I have to say this now." Graz were the more mature team and deserved to win. "And that's why things won't get any quieter for Marco Rose in Leipzig."
