The Capital of Culture is getting a direct connection to Sweden - at least on three weekends this year.

Take the train directly from Stockholm to Chemnitz and back - this is possible on three weekends this year. To mark the Capital of Culture year, the route of the Snälltaget night train, which regularly connects the Swedish capital with Berlin and parts of Dresden, will be extended to Chemnitz on May 9, August 1 and September 20, as announced by Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn. The return journey will start on the following Sunday evening.

Chemnitz shares the title of European Capital of Culture this year with the Slovenian-Italian city duo Nova Gorica and Gorizia.

The train takes around 19 hours to cover the more than 1,700-kilometer route. It also stops along the way in Hamburg, Copenhagen and Malmö. It departs from Stockholm in the late afternoon and arrives in Chemnitz at lunchtime. Tickets are available on the Snälltaget website.
