The State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Saxony approved over 28 million euros for the preservation of cultural monuments last year. The largest approved funding project was the partial renovation of the Holy Trinity Church in Görlitz, according to a statement from the authority. The most recently funded monument is the Muskator-Heizhaus on the banks of the Elbe in Riesa, which was built in 1969.
The money will enable 137 measures to be implemented. 21 million of the funding comes from the "Special Program for the Preservation of Monuments" of the Free State of Saxony. The remaining 7 million are federal funds. The Free State of Saxony has more than 100,000 registered cultural monuments. Owners of cultural monuments are obliged to preserve and maintain them, it said.
