After the end of the outdoor pool season in Saxony, dogs are allowed to jump into the pool in some pools. Once a year, the four-legged friends also get to enjoy this, as they are not normally allowed in the outdoor pool, as Andreas Schmidt from the Förderverein Freibad Penig said. When dogs swim, their owners are also allowed in the water alongside the animals, provided they want to.
Owners can swim together with their animal companions in Cunewalde on September 22 and in Penig on September 28. In other parts of Saxony, there will also be opportunities to take your four-legged friends to the outdoor pool during September. The furry friends in Riesa already had the opportunity to do so on September 7.
In order to ensure the bathing fun is as gentle as possible, the chlorine system is switched off a week in advance, reported Schmidt. Experts from dog sports clubs will also ensure safety in the pool and between the dogs. Last year, a total of 78 animals and their owners came to the outdoor pool.
The dog swimming event has become a tradition and brings in revenue for the outdoor pools one last time. Schmidt said it was difficult to estimate how big the crowds would be due to the current weather conditions. "It remains to be seen whether dogs and humans will dare to enter the pool at a water temperature of ten degrees."
