There are currently three candidates for the new leadership of the Saxon Left Party. The previous leadership duo of Susanne Schaper and Stefan Hartmann had been in office for around five years and had recently announced their retirement. The election of the new leadership is to take place at a party conference on November 16 in Neukieritzsch. An evaluation of this year's election campaigns will then also take place. The Left Party received just 4.5 percent in the state election on September 1 (2019: 10.4 percent). They only returned to parliament because they won two direct mandates in Leipzig. They are represented by six MPs in the new state parliament.
