Triathlete Caroline Pohle has won the European Championship title over the half Ironman distance. The 28-year-old from Leipzig came out on top with an impressive performance at the Ironman 70.3 in Tallinn. At the finish line, she knelt down, overwhelmed by the emotions, and buried her face in her hands.
Pohle led practically the entire race and needed just under four hours (3:59:40) for the 1.9-kilometre swim, 90-kilometre bike ride and 21.1-kilometre run. She relegated former Ironman runner-up Katrina Matthews to second place.
In the men's race, Sauerland-born Leonard Arnold took second place. In 3:36:35 hours, he was only beaten by around 35 seconds by the Greek Panagiotis Bitados. Fifth place went to Justus Nieschlag.
