The Niners Chemnitz basketball team are out of their depth on the European stage. The charges of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore lost 78:89 (39:40) to Spanish first-division club Basquet Manresa in front of their home crowd on Tuesday and so conceded their third defeat in their fourth Champions League game.
The Niners had already clearly lost the first leg 13 days ago by 59:105 (31:44). Nevertheless, the club from Saxony can hope to reach the second group stage. Third place, which they currently occupy in Group G, is enough for that. William Christmas (19), Victor Bailey Jr. (13) and Olivier Nkamhoua (10) scored the most points for the home side.
The German club got off to a perfect start and led 33:23 after 16 minutes. The Spaniards then stepped up their intensity in defense and turned the game around in the second quarter. After trailing by 13 points (53:63), the club from Saxony fought tooth and nail against the threat of defeat and managed to tie the scores at 67:67 in the 30th minute. However, the Iberians broke the hosts' last resistance with a 12:0 run to make it 79:67 at the start of the final quarter and conceded a total of 18 turnovers.
