Sporting success is not the main priority for RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose on his return to the scene of the biggest defeat in the club's history. The 47-year-old described the possible victory in Champions League Group G as "secondary" ahead of the game at Manchester City. "We don't have to talk about scoring goals in Manchester. We have to play a good game," said Rose on Monday evening. Both Manchester and Leipzig are already certain to qualify for the round of 16.
After a 3-1 defeat in the first leg, Leipzig would have to win by three goals to knock the defending champions off top spot in the table on Tuesday (21:00/DAZN). Leipzig have played City twice before, losing 3-6 in September 2021 and then suffering an unprecedented debacle last March with a 7-0 defeat in the second leg of the round of 16.
To prevent a repeat of that experience, Leipzig must be more confident, especially in possession. "What we do when we win the ball is crucial. How courageously we finish our situations," said Christoph Baumgartner. The 24-year-old Austrian international also described the game in Manchester as one of the biggest of his career to date.
