Following an incident of racism, the seventh division soccer club HFC Colditz has taken an unusual measure. For the match against Roter Stern Leipzig on Sunday, only personalized tickets will be sold on presentation of an identity card. "There was talk of holding the match in camera," Matthias Wohllebe, team manager of HFC, told the Leipziger Volkszeitung newspaper.
The reason for this was a scandal during a clash between the teams from the Sachsenklasse Nord in the Sachsenpokal last September. The match had to be interrupted due to racist insults from the crowd. The sports court imposed a fine of 1,000 euros. Now further financial damage is to be averted.
Second team as stewards
Roter Stern welcomes HFC's action, according to the LVZ. The Leipzig club describes itself as an "anti-fascist sports project", which is why there are regular confrontations with right-wing groups at away matches. Games often take place under increased security measures.
In Colditz, the second team will be responsible for security, the police will be on site and the Saxon association will send a security observer. A good 100 spectators are expected. "This is not a normal game," said Wohllebe.
