The Niners Chemnitz have made a successful start to the Fiba Europe League. The basketball Bundesliga club kept the upper hand in the first group game against KB Peja with 98:72 (48:45). Wesley van Beck (22), DeAndre Lansdowne (18), Jonas Richter (12) and Jeffery Garrett (11) played the biggest part in the Saxons' success. For the Kosovo team, Jay Jay Chandler (17), Jacob Calloway, Justin Edler Davis (14 each) and Malcolm Armstead (10) scored the most points. For the second preliminary round game, the protégés of coach Rodrigo Pastore already have to face the Polish representative Spojnia Stargard on October 25, 18:30.
The Chemnitz team had a hard time against the unknown opponent in the initial phase and were 29:32 behind after twelve minutes. Until the turn of the page, the guests remained on touch and kept the game completely open. In the third quarter, the Saxons increased the intensity in attack as well as in defense and ensured a preliminary decision with a 13:2 run from 50:48 (21st) to 63:50 (26th). By the start of the last ten minutes, the Bundesliga team had extended its lead to 73:56 and was no longer in danger in the final ten minutes. The Chemnitz team had the decisive advantage in the scoring rate beyond the three-point line. 14 of their 31 attempts landed in the opponent's basket. The guests could convert only six of their 23 throws from distance.
