RB Leipzig challenged in Freiburg
The record between RB Leipzig and SC Freiburg clearly favors the Saxons. However, with four wins from their last five games, Freiburg have currently moved ahead of the struggling Saxons in the table, who have just one win from seven league games. The sixth-placed Leipzig therefore need a win in the battle for the Champions League. In 17 Bundesliga duels, RB have emerged victorious eleven times with three draws, including the 3:1 win in the first leg. The RB professionals also won the last two matches at Sportclub.
Short trip to Salzburg should bring new momentum
Criticized head coach Marco Rose took special measures ahead of the top match this Saturday (18:30/Sky), flying with the team to Salzburg at short notice and completing a short training camp at the sister club. From there, they will travel directly to Freiburg, with the matchday press conference being held online. "Spending a few days together as a team, getting out and training in a different environment will do us good. We'll get even closer together and focus on the final phase of the season," said international David Raum.
Raum doesn't want a coach discussion
After the 2:1 home defeat against Mainz, criticism of Rose grew louder again. But the reasons for the crisis are not just down to the coach. In the absence of the injured Xaver Schlager, the team needs leadership in midfield. Even attacking player Xavi Simons cannot provide that at the moment. "We're not getting our full potential on the pitch at the moment. We have a lot of young players in the team who are already playing an important role. With young players, it's normal for there to be fluctuations in performance," said Raum and said with regard to the future of the Rose: "We don't even need to talk about the coach."
Baumgartner back
Christoph Baumgartner is back against Freiburg after his yellow card suspension and is therefore one more alternative for the RB offense after Antonio Nusa is still out injured. However, Kevin Kampl and Xavi Simons are facing further suspensions with four cautions.
Freiburg have been waiting ten games for a win
Freiburg, who lost the cup final against RB in Berlin in 2023, have been waiting ten games for a Bundesliga win against Leipzig. The Breisgauers have lost seven of their last ten games and drawn three times. Nevertheless, SC coach Julian Schuster does not see a fearful opponent. "I can't really relate to the term, and I've felt anything but fear this week," said the coach, who has picked up 13 points from the last five league games with his team.
