Bundesliga club RB Leipzig has agreed a long-term collaboration with its 16-year-old talent Viggo Gebel. The existing contract with the attacking player originally ran until 2026. As Gebel is not yet 18 years old, he has not yet been able to sign a professional contract.
The winger is the discovery of Leipzig's pre-season preparations. He was part of the RB squad from the start and has already featured in the test matches against Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Paris Saint-Germain. Born in Leipzig, he played in all of the youth teams from the U11s onwards, scoring 13 goals and providing ten assists in 24 games in the U17s last season.
Rose holds out prospect of Bundesliga appearances
Coach Marco Rose is full of praise for Gebel. "He did sensationally well in preparation. That's why we're going to keep him. He has qualified for our squad," said Rose after the 1:1 friendly against PSG. Gebel is clear-headed, cheeky and aggressive. "He has a good trigger in pressing, he goes through, he has a good feel for the spaces with the ball. The boy is a good footballer who brings a lot to the table. He's not a pacey player, but one from half-back. If he continues like this, he will play in the Bundesliga this season because he has worked and performed so well," said Rose.
