The RB Leipzig women's soccer team suffered a bitter defeat at SC Freiburg on matchday seven of the women's Bundesliga. Despite a respectable performance for long stretches in Breisgau, they lost 4-1 (0-1).
Shekiera Martinez (33rd minute) had put the hosts ahead. After the changeover, Annabel Schasching (53) and Cora Zikai (61) and Eileen Campbell (90+3) increased the lead. Marleen Schimmer (81') scored with a powerful shot to make it 1:3.
Vanessa Fudalla failed to beat Freiburg goalkeeper Rafaela Borggräfe with a foul penalty in stoppage time of the first half. RB slipped to seventh in the table after their third defeat of the season.
Individual mistakes and missed chances
The Leipzig side had their chances to improve on the 0:3 scoreline. But individual mistakes, such as before the 0:2, when Lou-Ann Joly made a disastrous misplaced pass in front of her own penalty area, ensured a clear result. Also because RB were too harmless in attack and failed to take advantage of the few clear-cut opportunities.
In addition to the missed penalty, former Freiburg player Giovanna Hoffmann (56), who had been called up to the national team, also had an outstanding opportunity but missed miserably.
