FC Erzgebirge Aue have notched up another win, consolidating their position in mid-table of the 3rd Football League. Coach Jens Härtel's team won their clash with direct table neighbors Wehen Wiesbaden 2:0 (1:0) and celebrated their first away win since December.
Mika Clausen (43rd minute) put the visitors, who are still behind the Hessians in the table, in front. Marvin Stefaniak (62') followed up.
Wiesbaden claim a penalty
In a generally weak first half with few highlights, both teams lacked precision and creativity in attack. Marcel Bär's spectacular lob into the path of Clausen finally gave Auer the lead. The goalscorer could have increased the lead before the break, but pushed the ball past the post.
The home side from Wiesbaden got off to a better start in the second half. First, Aue keeper Martin Männel deflected a shot from Fatih Kaya just over the bar. Then the Saxons were lucky not to have a penalty whistled against them after Stefaniak was hit on the hand from close range.
The 30-year-old was undeterred by the fuss and scored the winner shortly afterwards. The home side protested again because Stefaniak had started from an offside position.
