The unrest at regional soccer club 1. FC Lok Leipzig continues. A few days after the dismissal of president Torsten Kracht, coach and sporting director Almedin Civa must also go. The club made the announcement on Monday. The move was justified by the sporting situation. Leipzig are only in 15th place, which could possibly lead to relegation to the Oberliga at the end of the season.
The training will initially be led by assistant coach Robin Hintz and goalkeeping coach Tomislav Piplica. The final trigger for Civa's departure was the 4-0 defeat at leaders Greifswald on Sunday. A few days earlier, the club, which had started the season with great ambitions, had already lost 2-0 at Altglienicke.
"Despite all our efforts, we didn't manage to achieve the desired results. In particular, the manner of the recent defeat against Greifswalder FC led to the decision to relieve Almedin Civa of his duties," said a club statement.
On Thursday evening, Lok's supervisory board had decided to dismiss controversial president Kracht. The decision was a first "step towards a new beginning", as the club announced.
At the beginning of January, accusations were made that Kracht was going it alone. Some colleagues on the executive committee, the managing directors and members of the supervisory board had demanded the dismissal of the Lok boss in an incendiary letter. The former Bundesliga professional had rejected the accusations regarding his management style. The 56-year-old took up the post in May 2023 and had previously been the club's sports director and vice president.
Civa came to Leipzig in the summer of 2020 after Lok missed out on promotion. The club's best finish in the three-and-a-half years was fourth place, but the club had nothing more to do with promotion.
