The FC Bayern Munich women's soccer team started the second half of the Bundesliga season with a must-win. The team of coach Alexander Straus narrowly won 1:0 (1:0) at RB Leipzig. The defending champions remain level on points with leaders Eintracht Frankfurt, but have the worse goal difference.
Magdalena Eriksson scored the only goal of the game in the 11th minute for Munich, who were without the injured England European champion Georgia Stanway and Sarah Zadrazil. For Leipzig, Frenchwoman Lou-Ann Joly, who replaced the injured Sandra Starke in the starting eleven, was shown a red card in stoppage time. The team from Saxony slipped to eighth place after suffering their sixth defeat of the season.
The Frankfurt side had already secured a 3:2 win over their closest rivals Bayer Leverkusen on Friday. VfL Wolfsburg do not face Carl Zeiss Jena until Monday.
