RB Leipzig's sporting director Rouven Schröder believes his current managing director Max Eberl is capable of taking the board job at FC Bayern Munich. "I'm not worried that he won't make it," said Schröder on the Sky90 program on Sunday evening. It may take some time for Eberl (50) to find his feet at the German soccer record champions and get to know the club properly. "But Max will manage that," said Schröder.
A discussion about a new sporting director was on the agenda at an FC Bayern supervisory board meeting on Monday evening. Those responsible had not made a name of the candidate public in advance - but it is considered certain that the former Bayern professional Eberl will get the job from March onwards.
He would then succeed Hasan Salihamidzic, who had to leave at the end of last season. Eberl has already enjoyed success in the Bundesliga as manager of Borussia Mönchengladbach. At the beginning of December 2022, he became sporting director at Leipzig; in September 2023, however, the club bosses released him because they felt he lacked commitment to RB.
When asked whether Eberl was ready for FC Bayern, Schröder replied: "Max is someone who has so much experience, so much empathy, who has a lot of power. Someone who can inspire people and take them with him. Taking people along and uniting them will also be a big issue for him. It's important to get there first, to recognize the currents that simply exist internally at FC Bayern. Max is the right person to radiate something, a certain warmth. But one thing is clear: this will be a different step for him than RB Leipzig."
