Werder Bremen have landed a transfer coup on the last day of the transfer window, signing striker André Silva on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season. The two Bundesliga clubs made the announcement on Monday.
"Things haven't gone as planned for André recently. That's why the door has opened for us again at short notice," said Werder's head of professional soccer Peter Niemeyer. "André has known the Bundesliga for years, is fully trained and we hope that he will integrate into our team very quickly."
The 29-year-old Portuguese has already played for FC Porto, AC Milan and Sevilla FC in his career and scored 28 Bundesliga goals for Eintracht Frankfurt in just one season in 2020/21. However, he never reached this level at RB Leipzig.
According to media reports, Silva will continue to receive part of his high salary from Leipzig in the coming months. Bremen do not have an option to buy the 53-time Portugal international.
