For the third time in the history of European Tour tournaments, a German darts pro has won a title. Martin Schindler also makes a leap in the rankings.

German darts pro Martin Schindler has surprisingly won a title on the European Tour. "The Wall", as Schindler is known, defeated favorite Gerwyn Price from Wales 8:5 in the final in Riesa on Sunday evening and secured his first PDC title.

The 27-year-old German slumped on stage after the deciding dart and shed tears. He had previously defeated Dutchman Danny Noppert (6:5 in the quarter-finals) and England's Chris Dobey (7:3 in the semi-finals).

Schindler is the third German to win a tournament on the European Tour after Max Hopp and Ricardo Pietreczko. Hopp prevailed in Saarbrücken in 2018, Pietreczko last year in Hildesheim in October. With the win, Schindler takes over from his buddy Gabriel Clemens as the German number one.

"It's so brutal. I've been playing the tour for about seven and a half years. I've got an awesome trophy," said Schindler. "I would never have dreamed of this. But I've worked a lot for it."
