Willi Orban's second appeal was also unsuccessful. The Federal Court of the German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed the two-match ban for RB Leipzig captain Orban. As a result, the defensive boss will also miss this Saturday's Bundesliga match against 1. FC Union Berlin (3.30pm/Sky).
"Willi Orban's foul prevented an obvious goalscoring opportunity, but the free kick awarded for it did not result in a goal. As a rule, there is a two-match ban for a non-serious foul without a subsequent goal, which the sports court correctly recognized," said Achim Späth, the chairman of the DFB Federal Court, in a statement.
"Clearance" accepted
The panel thus confirmed the previous rulings of the DFB sports court. In his reasoning, Späth also alluded to the Hungarian international's experience. Therefore, "it cannot be assumed that he misjudged the possibility of not only hitting the ball. Rather, he made the risky rescue attempt - i.e. the emergency brake - just before the penalty area and also accepted the "clearing" of the opponent in the specific style of play".
Orban was sent off in the 85th minute of the season opener against VfL Bochum after he was only able to stop VfL attacker Myron Boadu with an emergency stop. RB coach Marco Rose had subsequently hoped for a reduced penalty as his central defender had allegedly touched the ball lightly. Orban was recently absent from the 3-2 win at Bayer Leverkusen due to suspension.
