The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has taken another step towards direct qualification for the play-offs. The team from Saxony won 70:65 (35:35) at penultimate-placed Skyliners Frankfurt. With their third win in a row, the charges of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore cemented their place among the leading quartet in the German Basketball League.
Kevin Yebo, Victor Bailey Jr. and Jeff Garrett (13 apiece) played the biggest part in the 14th win of the season. Malik Parsons (23) and Marcus Domask (12) scored the most points for Frankfurt.
After a good start (17:10, 8th minute), the Saxons lost the thread of the game. Frankfurt went 33:32 in front for the first time in the 19th minute and stretched the lead to 48:41 by the 28th minute. Chemnitz turned the tables again with an 11:1 run to make it 52:49 in the 32nd minute. The club from Hesse struck back and went 63:62 in front again with just under two minutes remaining.
Chemnitz kept its nerve in the decisive spell and produced an 8:2 run to set the course for victory. In addition to their nerves of steel, they primarily benefited from their better shooting percentage from the floor (39:33 percent) and their close air superiority under the boards (45:40 rebounds).
